Most veteran Zelda fans and even those introduced to a Link to the Past during the Gameboy Advance era remember this line at the end of the credits. With Ganon destroyed, peace reigned in Hyrule and the Master Sword fell into a deep sleep within the Lost Woods. These are my thoughts on what could happen in A Link to the Past 2.
As Alex Plant from GenGAME pointed out, there was a familiar blue-hilt weapon found in the April 17, 2024 Nintendo Direct. Alex believes that this sword is the Master Sword, the fabled Blade of Evil’s Bane.
“But wait! I thought that the Master Sword slept forever!” says a fan somewhere in the Zelda community.
Well, let’s look up the definition of “forever” shall we? According to Dictionary.com, forever can mean “without ever ending; eternally; an endless or seemingly endless period of time;”. Another definition for forever that I want to point out is this: “for a very long time”. Though the last definition is an informal way of saying the word forever, it does help explain Alex Plant’s thoughts that the blue hilt sword that Link used in the demo was, in fact, the Master Sword.
What I believe could happen in A Link to the Past 2, without contradicting Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons, is that another villain arises to bring forth destruction and dread across Hyrule. The Master Sword, being the the Blade of Evil’s Bane, could have awoken from long sleep (a few years, ten years, even a century perhaps?). Being the anti-thesis of darkness and evil, the Master Sword awoke due to the dangers that now plague Hyrule. The sword, along with the Chosen Hero, are summoned whenever evil rises from the earth.
Outside from the Master Sword returning in A Link to the Past 2, I think the Dark World may return as well, but return as the Golden Realm once more. After the Hero of Light, Link, wished on the Triforce, he returned everything that went wrong. He erased all the evil that Ganon had committed and restored many lives that were lost, such as the Flute Boy, his uncle, and even the King of Hyrule. With his wish, and him becoming the owner of the Triforce the once Dark World now became a realm bathed in golden light once more.
Perhaps in A Link to the Past 2, the Golden Realm can have the same properties of the Dark World, such as being a mirrored version of Hyrule. Perhaps the Golden Realm can become another Silent Realm-like trial area? With his wall drawing ability, it could be possible that Link can go through this “golden trial” and walk alongside walls to get access to some items or new areas and return back to his word with the Magic Mirror.
And speaking about the wall drawing ability, how does Link gain this ability? Does he gain it from a Great Fairy for completing a task, or is he placed under a curse from some demon? I’m leaning more towards him getting it as a gift from a Great Fairy more than anything, but who knows what the developers have under their sleeves?
