Unlike it’s predessor, Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask had a new function with the Mask system. Hidden in Termina are 24 masks which have their own functions and abilities. Some are given as rewards for completing side-quests while some are given to you by characters or found in your journey.
This page has complete details on how to collect each of the 24 masks and also what abilities each of the masks have. The masks are put in alphabetical order for easy viewing.
All Night Mask
Location: This mask is bought at the Curiosity Shop. To get this mask, it is best to get the Adult Wallet by saving 200 rupees in the bank, then going to the Great Bay Spider House and defeating all the Golden Spiders in order to collect the Giant’s Wallet. Save another 500 rupees and collect the mask.
Ability: Stay awake during Anju’s grandmother’s story and collect two Pieces of Heart for doing so.
Blast Mask
Location: Wait in North Clock Town as Link until about midnight. Sakon the thief will appear and take an old lady’s bag. Slash at Sakon with your sword and he’ll run away. The old lady will give you the Blast Mask as a reward.
Ability: Has the same properties as a bomb, but will damage Link as it is close ranged. Use your shield then the mask to protect yourself. Good as an alternative if low or out of bombs.
Breman’s Mask
Location: This mask is found in the Laundry Pool at the west side of Clock Town at night. Talk to Guru-Guru as Link to gain the Breman’s Mask.
Ability: This allows Link to gather up the Cucco chicks at Romani’s Ranch to gain the Bunny Hood.
Bunny Hood
Location: Found in Romani’s Ranch in the Cucco area. Use the Breman’s Mask to quickly gather up all the Cucco chicks and watch them grow into adults. The owner of the Cuccos will be amazed and give you the Bunny Hood
Ability: Gives Link the ability to run twice his speed.
Captain’s Hat
Location: This is found in the graveyard in Ikana Canyon. Defeat Skull Keeta quickly and gain his hat.
Ability: Allows Link to talk to Stalchildren and gather info or open the graves in the graveyard as well as the Stalchildren in the Ocean Spiderhouse. Makes the Redeads in Ikana Castle dance.
Circus Leader’s Mask
Location: Found in the Milk Bar Latte. Requires the Romani Mask in order to get in. Play the “Ballad of the Windfish” with each of the different forms of Link and Gorman will cry as he remembers the song was played the first time he was at the Carnival of Time.
Ability: When helping Cremia get into Clock Town with her milk cargo, if you where this mask, the thieves will not attack you.
Couple’s Mask
Location: Gained after completing the entire Kafei Sidequest and assisting Kafei in getting his Sun’s Mask. First start on the First Day. Go to the Mayor’s house between 10 AM and 8 PM and enter the door to the right of entrance. Talk to the Mayor’s wife in order to collect Kafei’s Mask. Quickly go to the Inn between around 1:50 to 4:10 PM and Anju will mistake you for another customer and give you their key. Then between 2:15 PM and 9:10 PM, talk to Anju, the innkeeper with Kafei’s Mask on and she’ll ask you to meet her that night. Wait in the kitchen till midnight till 8 AM. Anju will be waiting for you and she will give you a letter. Drop the letter in the mailbox and wait till the next day.
Go to the Laundry Pool and wait at 3:30 and Kafei will get his letter from Anju. Hurry and run into Kafei’s secret hiding spot and wait at the bottom of the stairs. Talk to Kafei and he will notice that you’re the same person from Anju’s letter and will ask you to help him. Agree to whatever he says and you will gain Kafei’s Memorial Pendant. Give it to Anju and she will wait for him.
On the final day at 6 PM to 7 PM, you will find Kafei at Ikana Canyon hiding behind a rock waiting for Sakon to appear to open his lair. Sakon’s lair is found near the river on the Far East end of Ikana Canyon. Wait till Sakon opens the door to his lair and don’t pursue him until Kafei does. Enter the lair and Kafei will trigger a trap which will activate the conveyor belt that the mask is on. You will now be able to use Kafei so run through the open door and move around the blocks in your path and place one on the switch that will open the door on Link’s side. With Link, attack and kill all the enemies in the room to open Kafei’s door. Get through the rooms quickly so you can collect the Sun’s Mask. Return back to Clock Town and between 4 AM and 6 AM on the Final Day, go to the Stock Pot Inn’s employee room on the second floor; Kafei and Anju will exchange masks and the Couple’s Mask will have been born. Return back to the first day and use the Couple’s Mask during the Mayor’s meeting to silence everyone and get a Piece of Heart.
Ability: End the dispute in the Mayor’s meeting and collect a Piece of Heart.
Don Gero’s Mask
Location: In the Mountain Village, there will be a frozen and hungry Goron on the top of a froze waterfall. Go to the Goron Village as Goron Link and light the torches inside the main building. Once done, the chandelier will rotate. Ram into each of the pots and one will drop a huge chunk of Rock Sirlion. Carry it all the way to the hungry Goron and throw it on the ledge and he will eat it. He will give you the Don Gero’s Mask in exchange.
Ability: After collecting all the frogs (Located the Laundry Pool, Woodfall, Woodfall Temple, Great Bay Temple, and Mountain Village). Play with choir and you will be rewarded with a Piece of Heart.
Garo’s Mask
Location: Found at Gorman ranch, ride on Epona against the Gorman brothers. If you win, you get the Garo mask.
Ability: Allow entry into Ikana Canyon as well as make Garo appear whenever Tatl senses an “evil presence”.
Giant’s Mask
Location: Found in Stone Tower Temple after defeating the Eyegore as a prize for defeating Inverted Stone Tower Temple’s miniboss.
Ability: Allows Link to turn into a giant ONLY during the Twinmold fight. (Note: Even with hacking to allow use outside of Twinmold’s room, Link will be stuck in the transformation animation.)
Gibdo Mask
Location: Found in Ikana Canyon. Use the Song of Storms on Sharp at the river cave on the north edge of Ikana Canyon. Doing so will cause the river to rise and play the music of the music house which is a similar tune to one found in Super Mario 64. When Pamela exits the house and looks at the river, get near her and she’ll run into the house and won’t exit. Stay away from the house and wait two hours and she’ll exit. Wait till she’s going up to the well and quickly enter her house. Go to the basement and find a semi-Gibdo Pamela’s father and play the Song of Healing to turn him back to his human form and collect the Gibdo Mask.
Ability: Talk to the Gibdo’s in the well and ask what they want in order to collect the Mirror Shield as well as a Big Poe.
Great Fairy’s Mask
Location: After regaining your human form and returning back to the First Day, once again collect the Stray Fairy and bring it back to the Great Fairy and return her back to normal. She will reward you with the Great Fairy’s Mask.
Ability: Sense where a hidden Stray Fairy is and collect them when they are broken out of their prison. A little jingle will happen when a Stray Fairy will float towards you.
Kafei’s Mask
Location: Part of the Kafei’s sidequest, this mask is found in Mayor Detour’s house. Enter his house and go to the room on the right and talk to the mayor’s wife and she will ask you to find Kafei. Accept and she will give you his mask.
Ability: Allows Link to gather information on the missing Kafei.
Kamaro’s Mask
Location: Kamaro is found one of the mushroom shaped rock formations located on the northern edge of Termina Field after midnight. Talk to him and use the Song of Healing and he will give you a mask that looks like him. He will teach you a dance which you will need to teach the Rosa sisters in Clock Town.
Ability: Allows Link to dance in front of the Rosa sisters who will like the dance. They will give you a Piece of Heart in exchange.
Keaton’s Mask
Location: Keaton is a mischievous fox who hides near the bushes that move. There is one in Clock Town as well as other locations. To get it, complete the Kafei sidequest (see Kafei’s Mask) up to the point of delivering Kafei’s pendant. Return to Kafei’s place on the Third Day between 1 PM and 10 PM and talk to the Curiosity Shop owner and get the mask.
Ability: Talk to Keaton (who hides in the moving bushes) and take his quiz. See our “Keaton Quiz” page on the answers to his quiz to get a Piece of Heart from Keaton.
Mask of Scents
Location: After completing the Woodfall Temple, return back to the Deku Palace with the Deku Princess. Go to a secret passage on the left side of the palace (turn right when you exit to the entrance from the throneroom). Follow the Deku Butler all the way (it’s helpful if you have the Bunny Hood) to the end of the corridor and he will give you the Mask of Scents.
Ability: Pick up the scent of mushrooms in the Woods of Mystery and bottle them. Return to Kotate in the shop and give her the mushrooms to get a special potion.
Mask of Truth
Location: Found in the Woodfall Spider House, defeat all the Golden Skulltulas in the house and talk to the man at the entrance. He will give you the Mask of Truth.
Ability: Talk to Gossip Stones. You can also talk to dogs and read their minds and how they feel. This is especially helpful on finding the perfect racing dog for Mamu’s Dog Race.
Postman’s Hat
Location: Found outside the Milk Bar. Complete the Kafei sidequest and enter Kafei’s house on the final day between 1 PM and 10 PM. Get the “Special Delivery to Mama” and deliver it to the postman between 6 PM and 5 AM and he’ll deliver it to Kafei’s mother who is at the bar. He’ll run outside and you can talk to him after and he’ll give you the Postman’s Hat.
Ability: Allows you to look into the Postboxes around Clock Town. The first time you do so, you’ll get a Piece of Heart, but you’ll collect Rupees any other time.
Romani’s Mask
Location: This mask is found after completing several events at Romani’s ranch. Access the ranch by blowing up the boulder with a Powder Keg after collecting the rights to using a powder keg by Big Goron in Goron Village. Enter the ranch on the First Day and talk to Romani in order to ride on Epona and beat the high score in her game. Promise to meet her at night. When you do, fight “them”, a bunch of alien ghosts, and prevent them from entering the barn. Use Epona to ride around the barn or use the Bunny Hood. Shoot all of “them” with arrows and pick up the arrows they dropped if you’re low. After 4 AM, they’ll fly back into the sky and you’ll save the cows. On the next night, talk to Cremia, Romani’s sister, and ride with her. Protect her cargo, by shooting the bandits with arrows. After protecting her cargo, Cremia will give Link a hug and the Romani Mask.
Ability: Gain entry into the Milk Bar.
Stone Mask
Location: Find the wounded and invisible soldier in Ikana Canyon (he’s in the middle of a ring of stones). Hand him a Red Potion so he can heal himself. He’ll give you the Stone Mask.
Ability: Hide from certain enemies. This doesn’t work against Minibosses or bosses.
The following masks are Transformation Masks. They will change Link into a Deku, Goron, Zora, or even a Deity depending on the mask you use. Each of them have their own abilities and are needed to proceed farther into the game.
Deku Mask
Location: Found in the Clock Tower after learning the Song of Healing.
Ability: Allows Link to turn into Deku Link and use the abilities he first got used to in the beginning segment of the game. Turns his Ocarina of Time into a set of Deku Pipes.
Goron Mask
Location: A mask found when finding the secret grave of Darmani the Third. Use the Song of Healing and Darmani will let go of the feelings that kept his spirit tied to the living world. He will drop a mask which will allow Link to turn into Darmini while retaining his hat and boots as well as gaining gloves.
Ability: Turn into a Goron. Allows Link to roll into a ball in the Goron form as well as attack with his fists as well as well as his butt. Turns Link’s Ocarina into a set of Goron Drums.
Zora Mask
Location: Find Mikau in the water near Great Bay’s shoreline and push him to shore. Listen to his plea and play the Song of Healing and he will turn into the Zora Mask.
Ability: Gain all the abilities of a Zora such as breathing and swimming quickly underwater. An electric barrier will form around Zora Link while underwater, allowing him to tackle and stun enemies while swimming. On land, the R button will make him extend one of his fins as a shield. Pressing and holding B will make Zora Link use his fins as a boomerang, allowing you to strike at tricky switches or stun enemies. Turns Link’s Ocarina into a Zora Guitar.
Fierce Deity Mask
Location: Found inside the Moon, the mask is given to you by the kid wearing the Majora’s Mask by the tree after you complete the four sub-dungeons in the moon. Complete the four dungeons and find the four Pieces of Heart found in the dungeons in order to give away all your masks and get the Fierce Deity Mask.
Ability: Turns Link into Fierce Deity Link, a powerful god. Only useable in Boss rooms. Targeting bosses allows Fierce Deity Link to shoot out lightning disks to damage the boss from afar as well as stun them a little by consuming magic power. Damage by Fierce Deity’s sword is many times that of Link’s own sword and can kill Odolwa within six swings. Unable to use any other item other than the mask.
