1.1 - The Oracle of Seasons, Din
In the beginning of the game, you will be sent on a quest by the Triforce to aid Holodrum and save the Oracle of Seasons. You will be unconscious for awhile, but a troupe of people will come by. Their dancer, Din, comes and aids Link to perfect health.
Walk up one screen then right one screen to find the group of people. Talk to each one of them to get a bunch of information, like where you are, who they are, etc. Talk to Din last and she’ll ask you to come and join her in a dance.
After your dance with Din, the screen will turn black. A tornado will whip through the scene and knock all of Din’s friends away. Link will try to protect Din, but it’s hopeless as Onox, General of Darkness, appears and takes Din with him. Using Din, who is revealed to be the Oracle of Seasons, Onox forces the Temple of Seasons to fall through the earth, disrupting the natural balance of Holodrum.
Once Link awakens from Onox’s Assault, Impa walks over to him and reveals that Din was no mere dancer and she was actually the Oracle of Seasons. She ask Link to save Din and Holodrum from the evils of Onox.
New Characters
Link
Link is the protagonist in the game and is said to be a Legendary Hero destined to save Holodrum. He was sent on a quest by the will of the Triforce and was instructed to protect Din, the Oracle of Seasons.
Impa is the caretaker of Hyrule’s Princess Zelda. She was sent by Princess Zelda to Holodrum for Zelda saw a cloud of darkness floating over the Oracle of Seasons. She acts as the dance troups cook while she secretly protects Din.
Onox is the antagonist of the game and proclaims himself to be the “General of Darkness” before he captures Din. He later sinks the Temple of Seasons to the ground to cover the entire land of Holodrum into darkness.
Proceed down south from Impa’s House to Horon Village. There isn’t much here, but go two screens down, two screens right and you should see Vasu Jewelers and collect the L-1 Ring Box and the Friendship Ring. Rings have many different affects in the game, like improving your attack or defense as well as turn Link into different creatures, but we’ll get more into that on our Ring Page.
Head to the western edge of town and you’ll see the Know-It-All birds. If you talk to them, you’ll get a variety of information about the game, like how to save, some tips and tricks, and other tidbits.
Go west of the town and proceed south. You will find a cave entrance that will lead to Hero’s Cave. Inside you will find your sword.
Hero’s Cave
In the first room, avoid the Keese. You can’t hope to even lay a hand on them just yet. Go to the next room and push the block, then head north. Go through the mini maze and don’t fall into the abyss. Push the left block on the right side of the room first, then push the right block right. Continue to the next room and step on the switch to get a key. Go back two rooms and then go south.
Go right then open the door with your key in order to open the room with the Wooden Sword. You’ll be warped out of the cave. You’ll notice a bush above the cave entrance. Slash it with your sword, fall down the pit, and open the chest to get 30 rupees. Then return to Horon Village and go to the shop for a shield. Go to the east side of town and slash at the gate with your sword to do a spin attack to open the gate.
Maku Tree
The Maku Tree is the guardian of Holodrum, but look at him sleep! Slash at his nose bubble to wake him up and Link will explain to the tree all of the horrible things that have happened so far. The Maku Tree feels sorry for not being able to help Din and explains to Link on how to save her by collecting all eight Essences of Nature.
Take the key he drops and return back to where you started in the game. Go left and use the key in the keyhole to open the way into Gnarled Root Dungeon.
New Characters
Vasu
Vasu is a jeweler in Horon Village who can appraise rings to allow Link to use them. When you get a ring, bring it to Vasu to appraise it for 20 rupees per ring!
Octoroks are the most common enemy found not only in Oracle of Seasons, but also the rest of the Legend of Zelda series. They come in a land-form in this game and shoot rocks out of their mouths.
Another common enemy in the series. Keese are bats that fly around in random patterns and don’t deal much damage. They are more of an annoyance than anything.
Zols are red blob creatures that hook onto you and prevent you from moving quick. Slash at them with your sword to kill them or make circles on the directional pad to shake them off.
You’ve reached the very first dungeon in the game. Proceed with caution as monsters have made their foul nest here.
Go up from the entrance. In the next room, push the block to the right to open all the doors. Proceed right to the next room and kill all the Stalfos with your sword for a Small Key. Go left two rooms, opening the door with your Small Key, then kill all the Stalfos in that room for a Dungeon Map. Proceed northward and hop in the minecart. Once off, kill the Moblins and move the block to the left in between the two Blade Traps. Carefully walk past the Blade Traps without getting hit and proceed to the next room.
In this room, you’ll see a bunch of blocks that need to be moved. Push the first block you can to the left, then push the next block below that one down, the next block to your left will be pushed left, walk up after that one, then left, then down, and push the southwest block down, then the block after that left. Head up the stairs to grab a Gasha Seed in the Chest.
Return back to the room to the right and climb up the stairs. Hit the lever with your sword and then move right and open the chest. Inside the chest is a Compass. Now return back to the Minecart and take a new pathway.
Kill all the Keese in your way and wait till you jump out of the minecart. Return one screen to the left and open the chest for ten (10) bombs. Go back right, climb up the stairs and go to the right side of the room. Avoid the Blade Trap there and step on the switch. Open the chest to reveal a Small Key. Return back to the stairs and go to the room on the left. Bomb the cracked wall.
There is a nasty maze up ahead full of Blade Traps. Carefully avoid the traps, hide in the holes between the blocks, and proceed to the north part of the room. Open the door with the key.
Miniboss: Goriya Brothers
You’ll be fighting two Goriya Brothers at the same time. Avoid the Boomerang, which will make a path between each brother. It is best to wait until one tosses the boomerang and then avoid it and slash him quickly. Do this several times to the brothers (they share the same health) and they will go down. A Fairy will appear to heal you and there will also be a portal leading you close to the entrance.
Avoid the Blade traps and move the left most block down or up. Walk down the stairs and you’ll find the Seed Satchel with twenty (20) Ember Seeds in the pouch. Return back, then push the block that is directly southeast of the left most block. Use the Warp Point to get to the first doors you need to open with Ember Seeds. Light the torches and enter the room. Kill all the Moblins in order to collect the Boss Key.
Return to the room north of the Entrance, then push the block right again, returning back to the room where you first killed some Stalfos. Kill them again, then light the torches with your Ember Seeds.
Kill the Floormasters before they warp you back to the entrance; there are four Floormasters in the next two rooms. Open the chest on the left side of the room to reveal a Mystical Ring, then proceed to the right room by following the north wall. Go through the room, killing the Floormasters if they get too close, then cut all the bushes in order to heal yourself.
Boss: Aquamentus
Aquamentus is the first of many bosses in Oracle of Seasons that also appears in Legend of Zelda, the game that most of Oracle of Seasons is based on. His weak point is the horn on his head. Slash at it with your sword while avoiding the energy rings that Aquamentus shoots from his mouth. Done correctly and quickly, you should be able to slay him. Collect the Heart Container after he perishes.
New Items
Seed Satchel
The Seed Satchel allows Link to carry the Mystical Seeds in this handy satchel. It comes with 20 free Ember Seeds.
The Goriya Brothers are the boss of the Gnarled Root Dungeon. They throw their boomerang between one another in other to hurt Link. Simply slash at them to defeat!
Aquamentus is both the first boss in Oracle of Seasons and Legend of Zelda. In both games, his massive horn is his weakness. Slash at his horn with your sword in order to damage him. Avoid his energy ring attack from his mouth!
