Nintendo Direct Feed of A Link Between Worlds.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds[1] is a new Legend of Zelda title that is being released for the Nintendo 3DS system that was revealed on April 17th, 2013 and has been in development since 2011.[2]. According to the April 17th Nintendo Direct, this game is a sequel to A Link to the Past and will take place in the very same world as A Link to the Past was in. The game will feature several new modes of gameplay, such as Link turning into a wall drawing, as well as several new dungeons to explore.[3]

When discussing about the next Legend of Zelda handheld title Eiji Aonuma has stated that the next Legend of Zelda 3DS title wouldn't have had any connection to the recent Zelda titles.[4] As well, Shigeru Miyamoto has stated before that he wanted to make another game similar to A Link to the Past.[5]

Gameplay

Gameplay from NiNTENDOMiNATi0N.
The game trailer shows Link exploring around the Lumberjacks' house and a dungeon similar to that of Tower of Hera. Buzz Blobs, Crows, Stalfos and Terrorpins have been shown in the game as well.

The Magic Hammer was shown in game and was used to smash down a platform to boost onto a higher level. Link can use Sword Beam attacks as well as the Spin Attack. A new feature is that Link can turn into a wall drawing (when the player presses A) to get past certain areas or see things from a new perspective. All of these abilities drain the green meter on the bottom left of the top screen for reasons unknown.[6]

Wall Drawing

The wall drawing is a new mechanic in A Link Between Worlds. The drawing ability was inspired by Phantom Ganon from Ocarina of Time who could jump from painting to painting.[7]

Light and Dark Worlds

A Link Between Worlds will include a Light World and Dark World mechanic similar to A Link to the Past.[7]

  1. "There is a '2' in the Japanese title. So, yeah, I think as I described today, it's an all-new game, it is an all-new story. [...] From a story perspective there are connections, so it does fall after A Link to the Past. And it's set in the same world, but introduces that new gameplay mechanic. So, yeah, I guess by that definition..." - Bill Trinen, http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/17/new-3ds-zelda-falls-after-a-link-to-the-past/
